Bring your horse and explore the gorgeous Bulkley Valley...
Gweek
The name "Gweek" comes from the name of a little village in Cornwall on the southern coast of England. When Robert and Barbara Jeffery immigrated with their 4 boys (Michael, Robin, Douglas, and Simon) to Canada in 1957, they brought the name with them and named their farm Gweek Farm Jeffery after the tiny village they lived in for most of their lives.
Gweek is a small village 5 miles from the main market of Helston. Before WW2 Robert's grandfather, John Jeffery, lived and operated a business there called the Gweek Company. It was a family business and employed many of the folks who lived in the area. They mined coal, tin and copper and shipped it through the company to other countries.
Today Gweek village is growing steadily and is home to the world renowned seal sanctuary along with a host of boat building shops in and around the area. The name "Gweek" has been handed down over the years and is steeped in Cornish tradition.
The Morgans
Gweek Farm became Gweek Morgans in 1986 when Robin and Cindy purchased their first Morgan and fell in love. We focussed on breeding Morgans until 2004. We have paid particular attention to the needs and temperament of each individual, and it has earned our horses a reputation as the finest western working Morgans in the Northwest. More importantly, it's brought us a lot of joy. (Other Morgan lovers will be interested in the Morgan page for breed-specific information and history.)
This is Cindy Jeffery and Slocan T.N.T., her 20 year old morgan gelding. Cindy has been raising Morgans since 1984 when she and Robin purchased "Tee" (as he is affectionately known) their first Morgan, as a young stallion. There are still five of his "get" in the valley, Chimano (appaloosa/morgan), Tee's Many Moons (affectionately known as "Mooch",( appaloosa/morgan), Hudson Bay (Morab), Onawa (morab mare) and BJ( morgan/quarterhorse). In 20 years she has been the proud owner of 15 beautiful Morgans all with the typical characteristics of the first original Morgan "Figure".
A New Direction
We have now come full circle, and become Gweek Riding Center (GRC). We are now sharing our facilities, knowledge, and hospitality with others. We seek to introduce beginning riders to the joys of horseback riding and stable management in a safe and friendly environment. We aim to provide a relaxing, trusting atmosphere that allows horse and riders of all levels to bond and focus on their time together, without distractions.
We hope to share some of the many years of joy and learning that our horses have brought to us.
